Providence Of A SparrowPerhaps we see things differently. We are so different afterall. The lives we lead are seperate. Yet unite us when we fall.Providence Of A Sparrow
For if you could see as I. Then perhaps you'd understand. That if my eyes were as your own. I may have learned to stay my hand.
Yet despite our worlds apart. A sense of loyalty keeps us close. We may be seperate in ideals. But at heart, bound more than most.
Though I may never again see you. Or get to speak to you once more. Know whatever comes to pass. I'll think of you forevermore.
And should you

The Mage's TowerAlone within these woodlands. Stands a tower, dark and tall. That has lingered through the ages. As the mage within it's halls. The Mage's Tower
A man of fragile form. Yet of power, matched by none. Poring over tomes of knowledge. That would see his will be done.
All around would call him wicked. For they could not understand. How a man could yearn for knowledge. Over loyalties demands.
But the mage, he worried not. For they were but a joke to him. With intentions full of nonsense. He could crush them at a whim.
Yet despite what they may

Wilde At HeartBold and honest Oscar Wilde. A man before his time. Whose wit may have been cutting. But whose passion was sublime.Wilde At Heart
Throughout an age of industry. Where all was bleak and grey. He would tower as a sunflower. On a calming summers day.
His radiance knew no limits. For his words touched all around. Through his infamous reputation. Inspiration would resound.
Yet Oscar's time was hard. For his heart enraptured all. And this sense of open passion. Sought to fashion Oscar's fall.
So for breaking social form. Poor old Wild
| Well to begin with my name is Adam K. Thorne. I was born in a little town called Gorleston on August 5th 1985 and was raised in the seaside town of Lowestoft, where I have lived all of my life. I am a poet and a writer of no ordinary talent and am also a self taught vocalist. I like to consider myself as somewhat of a bard as my poems and songs have a tale to tell and a meaning behind them. I feel that most music should follow this form of creativity but in an age where moronic pop musicians and manufactured bands prevail above true artists, I find that music seems to have lost much of its mystique and its meaning. I am a celibate and at this time I intend to live out the rest of my life as such. I have been in love twice in my lifetime, the first leading to disappointment, the second to friendship. Because of this I have given up on the idea of love as I find it inevitably causes me nothing but frustration. I feel that by being independent I can concentrate more on my work and less on causing myself unwanted aggrovation. It can become a bit harrowing at times, however it is the only way I can keep myself in a sound state of mind. At least this way I can focus my writing towards more philosophical outcomes and perhaps inspire people to new heights of creativity. I have mixed views in regards to religion as I am pantheist and very open minded when it comes to peoples ideas and beliefs. I dislike the way religion can be used to promote hatred, yet I also find many religious stories to be very profound. It is for this reason that I stand by my philosophy of following nothing without dismissing anything. It is my honest belief that if there is a higher power then it is far beyond mortal comprehension, so what is the point in arguing over who or what it is or whether it even exists at all? If we all learned to accept each others beliefs without setting them in stone we could perhaps learn to appreciate the world around us in all it's majesty without fighting over who is right and who is wrong. For example most deities are represented as very profound characters, so why should one be considered above the others when all share such inspiring stories? Afterall if a story strikes a chord with you then it can easily be considered as something that lives within you, therefore it can exist even if it is not to be perceived as real. Through this way of thinking I have come to accept the beliefs of all who surround me whatever their outlook may be. For who amongst us can truly say what exists and what does not? I have a strong dislike for separatist ideals such as racism, sexism or homophobia. I find that some light hearted mockery regarding each others differences and various quirks can be amusing. However simply holding hatred for somebody for the colour of their skin or for their preferred path of life is nothing short of foolishness. People should be valued for their deeds and their actions. Nothing more and nothing less. That being said I also dislike when people can't take a joke. Humour is more often than not the solution to most issues. Laugh and the world laughs with you, especially if you can laugh at yourself. Take yourself too seriously however and you become little more than the joke that everybody around you is in on. Moving on from my ideas and beliefs I feel that I should speak a little about my personality. I am a little on the eccentric side and suffer from a very mild case of bipolar disorder. Because of this I have been known to flip from depression to mania erratically. I have a no holds barred sense of humour and tend to look at life from more than one perspective which leaves me very open to the ideas and attitudes of others. It is for this reason that I have come to value loyalty and comradery above all things, for kinship is the most sacred gift that anybody could ask for. I am an avid reader and express a strong interest in a vast array of genres including war, mystery and horror but tend to favour fantasy and adventure novels above anything else. My favourite author would be J.R.R. Tolkien, I enjoy all of his stories but his magnum opus The Lord Of The Rings would be my favourite. I also follow the work of many other authors such as Robert E. Howard, Terry Pratchett and Stephen King to name but a few. Naturally due to my stance as a poet I am also interested in the work of poets and playwrights. I take a great deal of inspiration from many different poets, but of them all I find William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and Voltaire to be the most interesting. I will sometimes read graphic novels but tend to go for the more mature ones such as those written by Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman. Aside from the various authors, playwrights and poets I follow I have developed a strong affinity for myths and legends that have been timelessly reimagined over the ages. One such legend would be that of the revolutionary scoundrel, Robin Hood, a tale which has inspired me for as long as I can remember. Along with this I have come to admire the legend of King Arthur and the knights of the round table. This legend is probably my favourite as it holds close ties to my childhood and naturally stirs strong emotions regarding my homeland. I am also very fond of Greek mythology and Norse mythology for I find myself inspired by their extraordinary tales of courage and cunning. I truly believe that such stories shall always stand the test of time, and I would like to think that inspired young writers many years from now will still be citing them as their own inspiration. The last avenue of literature I really enjoy would be history. What could be more enthralling than a tale with all the tragedy and heroism of a legend, but which actually took place within reality? Be it the tale of an almighty ruler who dominated all before him or the writings of a humble scholar who enchanted people with his philosophies. I never fail to be amazed by stories of how mankind has evolved over the generations. Be it for better or for worse. I listen to and value many different styles of music. I will quite happily listen to country, folk, opera, classical, blues, jazz, electronic, orchestral, ambient, grunge, rock and metal however I tend to favour progressive variations of music the most. I am particularly fond of progressive power metal as I adore the way it merges powerful vocals with technical musicianship and lyrical poetry. Most songs written within this genre tend to carry a very symphonic and melodic sound whilst simultaneously managing to tell a story through clever use of narrative within the lyrics. My favourite musician within this genre would be Ayreon but I am also very fond of Devin Townsend, Sonata Arctica and Brainstorm along with many others. I am a movie connoisseur and have a rather large collection of films from various genres. I have to say that I vastly prefer older movies to modern ones as I find many modern movies to be haphazardly written, lacking in both cohesion and plot. A great deal of modern movies tend to rely too much on lazy special effects which diminishes the creative output involved. Many older movies however display a wealth of imagination and creativity, specifically when it comes to such aspects as set design, dialogue and even puppetry. Thankfully though the odd good movie does show up at the cinema every now and then, so perhaps not all hope for cinema is lost just yet. My favourite movie of all would have to be The Lord Of The Rings for it retold my favourite childhood story in a way I never imagined to be possible. I am also very fond of Highlander, Excalibur and The Dark Crystal to name but a few. I am somewhat of a gamer but nowhere near as much as I used to be. I feel that most modern games lack the creativity and imagination that many older games once had. When I have the chance to get into a game I normally go for the more story driven games such as role playing games and point and click games. My favourite game of all would have to be Baldur's Gate II Shadows Of Amn for it had a wealth of imagination and the character interaction was nothing short of genius. I am also very fond of Final Fantasy VII, Blood Omen The Legacy Of Kain and The Curse Of Monkey Island along with many others. Lastly I should probably mention television as it has become such an essential component in most peoples lives. I am not really very fond of modern television as I find that it sacrifices creativity in favour of blind hedonism. Everybody wants to be a star and thus we more often than not find our television viewing held to ransom by some daft nobody making an exhibition of themselves. As such most of my favourite television programs are rather dated by today's standards. I mainly enjoy cult television shows from my youth such as Robin Of Sherwood, Monkey and Sharpe. I also enjoy a great deal of classic British comedy such as Red Dwarf, Monty Python and Blackadder. Well I suppose I have rambled on about myself enough. I hope that those of you who took the time to read this find that you may be able to identify with me on a somewhat closer level. Hopefully this small profile has given you a better insight into my mind and perhaps helped you to discover a few hidden secrets within your own. - A.K.Thorne [link] - Youtube [link] - Facebook [link] - Myspace |
